TIMBER FRAME

..affordable excellence, made simple

Timber Framing is Strong, Aesthetic, & Natural

Timber framing is a traditional method of construction that has been used for centuries and is still widely used today. The oldest standing wood structures were timber framed by highly skilled carpenters.

Heavy Timbers are Strong

The use of large structural timbers in timber framing gives the structures a high strength-to-weight ratio, meaning that they are able to withstand significant loads while being relatively lightweight.

Traditional building techniques, such as wooden joinery, used to connect timbers together creates a much stronger and more stable structure than stick built structures that use metal fasteners. We’ve seen entire stick structures fall over before builders had time to sheet them! A timber frame will NEVER fall over.

Timber Frames are Aesthetic

The warm, rustic aesthetic of wood is timeless and adds to the overall appeal of the structure. The natural variations in color, grain, and texture of wood create a unique and organic look that can be appreciated.

The craftsmanship involved in creating a timber frame structure is highly skilled and requires a high level of precision and attention to detail. The process of cutting, shaping and joining timbers to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing structure is an art form in itself.

Timber Frames are Natural and GREEN

Timbers have a smaller footprint than dimensional lumber. Often timbers can be sourced locally from your own land, or much closer to the project than sticks. Timber frames are also more energy efficient. They are insulated using SIPs that completely enclose the structure, eliminating heat loss. In stick framing, every stud transfers heat from the interior of the building to the exterior. The tradition of placing an evergreen branch on the peak of a rafter after raising is a homage and thanks to the land.
