Custom Carpentry

..dedicated to craftsmanship

From full-scale structures to detailed features like the Alaskan Yellow Cedar stair railing shown below, we bring expertise and artistry to every piece. Whether you're building from the ground up or adding unique accents, our services are priced to provide high-quality work that fits your budget.

We select high-quality materials, paying close attention to the choice of wood, finishes, and other components. This focus on quality materials contributes to the longevity and durability of our furniture.

The term "stain or finish grade" implies high quality materials and craftsmanship. This type of cabinetry is often chosen for its natural beauty, and the grain patterns and color variations of wood are emphasized rather than covered up by paint.

The Owner

Jared is from Puyallup & Gig Harbor, WA where he has been building and working with his hands for over 20 years..

  • We restored an original mahogany door while keeping a balance of historical patina. It was a challenge protecting the door from the homeowner who originally wanted to stain it one color. Several times throughout the day I asked them if they were sure, and with a final attempt, after getting the door to a point that my eye saw art value, I brought them back out to it and it finally landed, they loved it. I’m thankful we got to do an art piece rather than a standard refinish. The home is thankful as well. Visit our instagram for more photos of this project.

  • The goal was to have stout 6x6 posts but rails that fit the hands well, which ended up being 4x6 carved and shaped to be comfortable. The posts were also given some curvy lines. I began with rough sawn true dimension timbers. A not so common technique for timber framing was used to cut the joinery, line rule. I learned line rule while building log furniture but have rarely seen it used in timber framing, whereas scribe rule and square rule dominate. The posts and rails are alaskan yellow cedar, draw bored with oak pegs. AYC is more dense than western red cedar but still carries much of the rot and pest resistance. Makes for great exterior wood projects and was easy on the tools. It likes chisels and joinery. Visit our gallery for more photos of this project.

Master Level Execution

As the owner and master craftsman, I personally execute every aspect of your project - a key distinction from larger operations. During my apprenticeship with bigger firms, I observed that master carpenters often solely manage projects while delegating the hands-on work to less experienced apprentices.

This direct, master-level execution is a cornerstone of our value proposition and a key advantage of working with our boutique service.

Overall Quality

The common practice of delegation to apprentices can lead to quality inconsistencies. By working directly on your project, I ensure a high level of mastery is applied throughout. My hands-on involvement means you receive the benefit of years of experience in every detail, rather than the learning curve of apprentices.

Your Vision

A direct line of communication with the craftsman working on your project from start to finish ensures that your vision is fully realized. With this approach, you have greater control, and your ideas are translated without the distortion that can occur when messages are relayed through multiple layers of communication. This reduces the risk of miscommunication and can make it easier to express ideas, ask questions, and get updates.

Exceptional Value

What sets us apart is my direct involvement in every project. Unlike larger operations where work is delegated to apprentices, I personally handle the craftsmanship with tools in hand. This ensures: Direct quality control at every stage, Expert execution of complex tasks, Immediate problem-solving when challenges arise, and Consistent, master-level workmanship throughout.

Pride in Work: Smaller companies rely on word-of-mouth and local reputation, so we tend to be highly motivated to deliver exceptional work at competitive prices. Our success depends on customer satisfaction and the quality of our work, leading to a greater sense of pride in each job. Even if we price our work the same as a larger and longer established operation, you recieve superior quality work and attention to detail. By definition, this is better value. More bang for your buck.

Enhanced Flexibility

Easier Adjustments: as a small businesses JEOHWOOD is agile, which allows us to adapt to changes or unexpected circumstances with less bureaucracy. Whether you want to adjust materials or modify aspects of the design, small companies are generally more accommodating of on-the-fly adjustments than large organizations.

JEOHWOOD often has more leeway to adjust schedules based on your needs, which can be particularly useful if you want to oversee certain decisions closely.

Knowledge of Local Regulations: we work primarily within the Pacific Northwest and are well-versed in local building codes, zoning laws, and permitting processes. This helps prevent potential delays and issues with compliance.

Trusted Subcontractor Relationships: JEOHWOOD works with a core network of trusted subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring quality and consistency in materials and craftsmanship. We collaborate with familiar, reliable teams for plumbing, electrical, and specialized tasks, which leads to a smoother process and better results.

Support for Local Business and Community

Economic Impact: Supporting a small, local business keeps funds circulating within the community, which benefits local economies and helps maintain local trade skills.

Commitment to Local Standards: As a small businesses JEOHWOOD maintains a commitment to quality and character, as our work directly impacts our reputation and standing within our community.
